Passion, dedication, grit, and determination-
These are just some of the characteristics that a high school championship football team knows. In Ron Glodich’s debut memoir, A Run to the River, you will travel with a diverse and talented team and their Michigan Hall of Fame Coach from the practice fields of Marine City High School to the clicking of its collective cleats echoing through the NFL tunnels of Ford Field.
With the fanfare of fireworks and team runs to the St. Clair River, your heart will leap with the hard-fought wins of this very often discounted but much-loved group of underdogs, including Michigan’s first female kicker. Set against the idyllic waterside backdrop of a small blue-collar town in Michigan, A Run to the River delivers a moving story of a community and coaching staff dedicated to developing the student athlete into a champion, both on and off the field.
With old school dedication to Friday night team dinners, firm handshakes and that developed look in the eyes, this author will take you on his journey of professional and personal conquests with tears and laughter. With a thirty-three-year marathon of seasons, Coach Glodich’s “secret sauce of success” is infused throughout his stories with the same delightful enthusiasm as his personally choreographed dishwashing dance moves.
Led by their coach, the team and community come together in this thrilling ride not unlike the stories of Hoosiers and Rudy. If you love sports stories, loyalty, and overcoming obstacles both on and off the field, this is the book for you!

Greetings from
Author Ron Glodich
As a three-sport student athlete in high school, I was fortunate to have my very supportive parents and two older brothers channel me down a successful pathway. I was also heavily influenced by Warren Fitzgerald’s Hall of Fame and legendary head football coach Al Drath. His amazing communicative style that commanded any room had me starry eyed as a freshman in his class and his positive reinforcement techniques had me completely committed to his football team.
I attended Grand Valley State University to play baseball and study physical therapy. Neither avenue worked in my favor. I returned home after my sophomore year and enrolled in Wayne State University where an old friend invited me to coach basketball with him at Chatterton Middle School. Working with my friend Bill Snyder and being mentored by a former teacher/coach Ed Spalding my love for coaching quickly grew. Mr. Spalding persuaded me to change majors and my educational career was born.
I began teaching and coaching at Marine City High School (MCHS) in 1987 and retired in 2019. I coached several varsity sports including football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball. I found the students and parents to be very similar to my blue-collar upbringing and fell in love with the school and community. I married my beautiful wife Kathy in 1990 and we raised our family in Marine City. Our twins Gunnar and Gabrielle graduated from MCHS in 2012 and are both accomplished professionals.
The success of the hard-working student athletes at Marine City High School in turn led to some personal accolades. In 2013, I was the Detroit Free Press Coach of the Year and the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSCFA) Coach of the Year. I was then inducted in the MHSCFA Hall of Fame in 2018 and selected as a NFL Detroit Lions Coach of the Week in 2018 as well. Multiple Macomb Athletic Coaches of the Year awards are directly tied to the tough-minded students that I was so blessed to work with.
Marine City continues to be my home. I have transitioned into authorship while part time teaching at Austin Catholic High School. With a love for movies, I aspire to have film adaptations of my books and I’m honored to also be in the forthcoming sports documentary, Beyond the Game.
Thank you for joining me here. Please sign up for news about my book, A Run to the River, and check back in often. I’d also be most appreciative of your support purchasing and posting a review for my book -Now available on Amazon.
Best,
Ronald Glodich
